1-Min Hack to De-seed a Pomegranate

Pomegranates are one of Israel's indigenous fruits. They are bursting with flavor and so fun to eat! The trick is figuring out how to get the seeds out - luckily, we have a hack for you!

Two open pomegranates on top of a pile of whole pomegranates

As a kid on Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year), we used to each get a quarter of pomegranate and painstakingly remove the seeds a few at a time.

There are on average 613 seeds in a pomegranate, so it would take forever (ain't nobody got time for that!).

As you can imagine, I wasn't so excited about those juicy little ruby gems when I was a kid.

But, a few years ago my sister taught me an epic hack to quickly de-seed a pomegranate and now I can't get enough of them! I can eat an entire pomegranate in one sitting.

Here are the simple instructions to guide you as you watch the video:

What you need: A bowl, a heavy spoon, a knife and a cutting board (and an apron if you want to stay clean!)

Steps:

1. Cut the pomegranate in half horizontally

2. Cut slits on the white part around the pomegranate

3. Turn the pomegranate upside-down in your hand (seeds facing your palm) and spread the pomegranate open.

4. Take your spoon and whack the back of the pomegranate over the bowl (don't be afraid to use your strength) and watch as the seeds fall out!

5. Take your spoon and eat!

What do you eat pomegranates with?
