Teruah - תְּרוּעָה
Pronunciation: Te·ru·ah
Literal translation: Blasting, shout, cry
If you have been in Israel for the past few weeks, you've probably heard these sharp-pitched noises coming out of the synagogues, especially around morning time. In case you were wondering, those noises are completely normal, that is the Teruah, one of the notes that the Shofar blower makes during the High Holidays and the month prior to them.
